40 Days In The Word
Last fall the Lord gave me a verse for our church in 2012,
Look at the nations and watch — and be utterly amazed. For I am going to do something in your days that you would not believe, even if you were told.
- Habakkuk 1:5
We have begun to see the fulfillment of this verse in our church. Lives are being changed, marriages are being mended, people are reading the Bible like never before and applying it to their lives, steps of faith are being taken, fourteen have been baptized this year, and three more are being baptized this Sunday!
People of the Book
As Southern Baptist we have always prided ourselves on being people of the Book. A conviction that the Bible is God’s divine, inerrant, infallible, special revelation to man. It is upon this conviction that we apply the truths of Scripture to our lives; governing every area of our lives.
As R. M. Dudley, a noted 19th -century Baptist pastor, editor and professor stated, “The fundamental principle of the Baptists is their belief in the supreme authority and absolute sufficiency of the Holy Scriptures; and their separate existence is the practical and logical result of their attempt to apply this principle in all matters of religion. This is the bedrock on which the denomination rests.”
J. M. Frost, founding president of the Baptist Sunday School Board echoes that sentiment: “Baptists at different times in their history, and to meet impending claims and conflicts, have issued their confession of faith, and have always given this primal and decisive place to the Word of God as their one authority. This is the bedrock of their faith, the one rule of their practice.”
December Newsletter
Mark Elkins, pastor of New Heights Church in Pineville and a former Mormon, will give his testimony this Sunday evening, December 18, at 6:00pm. The Annual Business Meeting will also take place Sunday evening.
Christmas Caroling: Wednesday, December 21. Come eat a delicious meal from 5:00 – 6:00pm with caroling in nursing homes and the community at 6:00pm.
Join us on Sunday, Christmas Day, for a special Christmas worship service at 10:45am. Come early for hot chocolate, coffee and cookies.
Christmas is a special time of the year, but not because of gifts, time with family & friends or because of the children. It is special because it is about Jesus! We realize it is also a very busy month, so we wanted to communicate some important upcoming events over the next few weeks.
First, our Annual Business Meeting will be held this Sunday, December 18th, at 6:00pm. Before the meeting, pastor Mark Elkins will be sharing his testimony. He was formerly a Mormon, but is now a church planter having recently planted New Heights Church in Pineville.
Christmas falls on a Sunday morning this year and is a great time to invite unchurched family and friends! Be sure to join us at 10:45am for our Christmas service. There will be no small groups or evening activities on Christmas Day. There will also be no evening activities on Sunday, January 1, 2012.
On Wednesday, December 21st, we’ll be going out into our community to spread some Christmas cheer. Come at 5:00pm for a delicious meal and at 6:00pm, we’ll go to some nursing homes and around the community to sing Christmas carols.
In January, we’re going to begin sending our monthly calendar electronically via email to those with an email address. This will save the church time and money. If you would like to still receive the calendar through the mail, please contact the church office and ask to remain on the calendar mailing list.
The Church Has Left The Building
You’re invited to attend the IBC Kids’ Choir presentation of “No Wonder” on Sunday, December 11 at 6:00pm.
When a group of church kids decide they want to go to the mall to sing for Christmas but are turned down, little do they realize what God had in mind. Instead, a trip to the local homeless shelter teaches them lessons about God’s unselfish love for us, our need for Him to speak His plan to us, and that we all have a treasure to offer. Hear the story and stay amazed at God’s wonderful Christmas gift!
Here’s a sneak peak of what the Kids’ Choir has been up to…
